We plan to supply food, school resources and materials through our agriculture projects but we need your support.

MWAHEO is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing quality education to underprivileged communities. We want to utilize sustainable cocoa farming projects to fund our operations while engaging students, youth, and the wider community in educational initiatives aimed at self-reliance and empowerment to avoid dangerous ways of moving overseas to seek greener pastures.

We aimed at providing food for the underprivileged community school children through the agriculture project.

One of our major target is to provide school material, tools and facilities infrastructural development.

Maize Farming

Maize farming is labor-intensive. Kids followed their parents to the farm to help in clearing the forest, burning, and later, planting the Maize seeds. In subsistent farming (non-mechanized), hoes and machetes are used to dig little holes into which to place the maize seeds and immediately bury them, waiting some days for them to germinate. There must be enough moisture to aid in germination. Here, again, women are more adept at planting and weeding to protect the young corn plants.

Where the soil becomes devoid of all the nutrients to aid in germination, some fertilizers are applied. Tender and constant care are needed to teach the young sprouts to full maturity. To avoid the heat, and because the leaves could be itchy, farmers leave very early to finish a major part of the job before the sun is out in full force.

These bushels assure all that harvesting might be bumpy. At this stage, corn could be harvested and cooked or fried over coal. Yummy! it is nice to consume. Some are left, however, to dry before it is harvested. Corn, too has multi uses and all parts are usable; no part is wasted.

To every farmer, harvesting is a joyous moment although it is equally labor intensive. Getting corn to this stage is not a mean fit. It tests a farmer’s strength, patience, persistence with the weather, and other factors such as rodents, insects, and birds of all types muzzling in and cutting into one’s profit. I need to highlight that corn comes in many colors ( as shown below); this farmer preferred yellow corn.

Among our student graduates, we expect those who would divert into selling kenkey and other corn products, farming inspectors, cocoa farmers, cassava, fishing, farmers, and allied agricultural endeavors. Let us support them so that we can make staying home in Ghana a better alternative to brazing the elements, and desperately try to go and seek greener pastures abroad with all its forms of perils.

Some of our graduates will venture into agriculture, trading, and marketing while others might branch into managerial roles of all forms. The average student will tell you, that so far as there are jobs after graduation, as long as the the financial remuneration is generous, there would be no desire to travel abroad.

Ghanaians and Africans as a whole do travel out of hardship. Let us help them to generate domestic excitement and satisfaction. The roads abroad are usually peril-laden.
